The
Conservancy Association received a complaint from residents from
Leung King Estate in Tuen Mun about “topping” of mature trees in the
estate. Leung King Estate was a public estate, but is now a private
estate under Tenants Purchase Scheme. We discovered lots of trees
were topped when we did a site visit there; just for the site near
the car park, about 20 mature banyan trees were “decapitated.”
A
property manager told us that the reason for “pruning” the trees was
the potential risk of falling branches hurting people. She also said
that the owners’ corporation also supported the decision. The
Conservancy Association expressed our deep regret for this incident
and urged all property management companies and organizations to
hire professional aborists. |
