Forbes Street Wall Trees |
|
The Government gave the green light for further planning of and preparations for the Mass Transit Railway West Island Line in June 2005. There are mature wall trees above two of the proposed stations: Forbes Street at Kennedy Town Station and King George V Memorial Park at Sai Ying Pun Station. CA initiated a flash mob on 10 July, urging MTR to preserve the wall trees through carefully designing the routes. Impacts on the trees should also be minimized during construction. CA also wrote to Antiquities and Monuments Office, requesting the Government to declare the invaluable wall trees as monuments. Mass transit system generates less pollution, but it should not mean the destruction of our natural and cultural heritage. CA is fighting for a plan that could preserve the wall trees as well as letting the citizens to enjoy easy travels. |
