Used Clothes Collection Days for Fairview Garden Used Clothes Collection Days for Fairview Garden were completed smoothly on 12th and 13th December. The residents actively participated the event and we collected approximately 11 tonnes of used clothes and other reusable goods, such as small electrical appliances, bicycles, toys, books and compact discs. All these goods filled up 6 medium-sized trucks! Here we would like to express our gratitude to The Office of Yau Tai Tai, District Councillor and Owners’ Corporation of Fairview Garden for facilitating the event and helping the resources gain a longer life span. |

Hello Teachers—Long Valley
as an Eco-classroom Nothing can be better than snuggling down in bed in a Saturday morning with just 13°C. Yet, a group of enthusiastic teachers of environmental education had no fear of the cold current and attended the Eco-class in Long Valley with us. In addition to experiencing farming fun, they gave valuable suggestions for improving our "Long Valley Little Farmers" programme which will soon be launched. We would like to express our thanks to their great input. The experiential activities included grinding, walking in paddy fields, field levelling and watercress harvest. Among these, the teachers found walking in paddy fields a very unusual task. Some took off their shoes and stepped in with no hesitation; some insisted not trying at the beginning, but took their courage to walk in the fields after seeing the happy faces of others. Walking in the field is never easy because every step goes deep in the mud. The teachers showed their admiration to Mr. Chan, the true farmer in Long Valley who walked like he was on level ground. After that, Mr. Chan taught the teachers to master the technique of watercress harvest—the roots should not be plugged. Only pick those above water level or it would be difficult to wash! With the effort paid, every teacher harvested a large bundle of freshly picked watercress. Subsequent to the activity, teachers exchanged their opinions and raised suggestions for improvement in the sharing session. To conclude, our teacher farmers were pleased with the activity design and arrangement, and would share the experience with their students in classrooms. Having the positive feedback and encouragement from them, we will endeavour to make every environmental education activity better. |
