Save King Yin Lei Campaign

The Conservancy Association organised the “Save King Yin Lei” Campaign in June. We also submitted a bid of $6,000,00 for the heritage mansion “King Yin Lei.” If CA was awarded the tender, the association would collect the sum from the community to pay for the tender. The house would then be open to community.

CA hoped this campaign will enhance the community’s awareness of heritage conservation. Potential buyers of the property should also take note of the conservation value of the building.

Prison Development in Hei Ling Chau

The Civil Engineering Department launched the second round consultation on 24 June. The Conservancy Association pointed out that the society had not reached a consensus on whether Hong Kong needs a "super jail"; and there was strong opposition to the choice of Hei Ling Chau as the site for the prison.

Genuine consultation should not be restricted to one site only, the project should go back to the drawing board and different site locations be considered. A proper procedure would require both the policy and the site selection be debated.

CA was of the view that Hei Ling Chau is not appropriate for prison or major development given the island's high ecological sensitivity. CA had reflected our reservation on both the "super prison" policy and the site selection, to our disappointment these were plainly ignored in the first round consultation. We therefore boycotted the second round consultation which was just a sham.
